Folders open in separate windows?

March 21, 2012 at 12:46:04
Specs: Windows XP, 3.4 GHz / 1525 MB
I have winXP and it was working fine for a while then all of a sudden when I open a folder it opens in a new window. I have gone into Tools -> Folder Options and made sure it is set to open folders in the same window as well as clicking the restore defaults. I have even tried doing it from different folders with the same result. Has anybody had this problem and know how to fix it without reinstalling the OS? I could do that, but I'd rather not if I can avoid it. I have just been dealing with it for some time but it's getting really annoying now. Thanks.

A reboot may be necessary.

As some folk seem to misunderstand "reboot", all it means is restart your computer.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Best option would be System Restore which requires no disk. It is here:
All Programs > Accessories > System Tools.

Alternatively put this lot in the Run box then hit Enter:
%SystemRoot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

Choose a date before this issue and away you go.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

yeah I could do that but I don't remember exactly when it started..it's been like this for a minute, but I'm just now getting tired of it. I think I might just do a backup and either reinstall XP or just go win7. That seems like it would be the easiest way to go.
