Solved Files cannot be deleted in the compress old file in disk cl.

January 20, 2012 at 18:03:10
Specs: Windows XP
In Disk clean up,compress old files shows 314,714K. After I perform disk cleanup and start disk clean up again, I see all other files show 0 except for compress old file. How can I get rid of the files contained in the compress old files. Pl note I do not want to delete the compress old file option in the disk clean up, just want it to show 0 similar to other files.

When old files are compressed by the Disk Cleanup, they are not moved to a special folder. They stay where they've always been but Windows just compresses them so they take up less space.

"Old files" in that context are any files or applications which you have not used for a long time. So you would have to uninstall all such applications and delete all such files in order to for Disk Cleanup to show "zero" for compressed old files.

We cannot tell you what applications to uninstall or what files to delete. Only you know which ones you haven't used for long time.

Don't delete such files until you know what they are for. You might need them sometime.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
