FDD was OK, now all disks unformatted

April 13, 2011 at 15:00:16
Specs: Windows XP, SP3 + updates, Pentium/D 2GB
Two weeks ago FDD was used to copy many diskettes(20+) to backup contents. Since two days ago, FDD has reported all diskettes as un-formatted. I feel that a driver has been corrupted, or I have picked-up a virus of some sort(Norton AV installed, current and up 2 date).
does anyone have a suggestion.

It's time to forget about FDD, not to mention Norton. Create your backups another way.

Sounds more like a FDD failure. They are like $5 bucks now. Replace the drive.

Or take one of these floppy disks to another floppy drive and see if you can read them.

That used to happen to me alot and I always thought FDD failure until I happened on a rather unique (?) and unorthodox solution. My FDD had slid forward in the tray and was contacting the front case cover. I slid the FDD back slightly in the tray and it fixed problem. Maybe this can work for you.
