extream sound problem

Specs: Windows XP, ????/1gig
ok heres my problem i have no sound on my comp all i hear is static my pc doesent even beep
i have a ac///97 no tones from dial up i git notta i downloaded new drivers and still all iit is the same problem i can hear a slight noise when i play wmp when speakers are full blown to the max any susgations on how to fix this issue

I also had AC/97 sound ,its intergrated sound built onto your motherboard ! I had the same problem you have and I could never get it to work ,even a neighbor of mine who is a programmer could not troubleshoot the problem and get it to work . Finally decided to get a PCI sound card and not only was it very easy to install ,it gave a much better sound quality then the intergrated sound ! After you have exhausted troubleshooting the sound,and it still wont work go for the PCI Sound card ,you can pick one up for a good price !

thats what i did i bought a pci sound card it fixed the problem a tech friend of mine went THRU this whole system via team viewer and he couldent fix it and he works for microsoft.....................................................................................................................................IN SHORT PROBLEM IS NOW FIXED.......................................
