Please Help. We were creating a video media file made from old photo's saved in our external hard drive 2 nights ago. When we'd finished we switched off the PC - forgetting to turn off hard drive. The next day we went back to look at mosre photos and when we open the hard drive it says its empty. We saftely removed it from the pc switched it off and let it cool down. I then connected it to my laptop this morning and it still states its empty. We didn't delete anything and the both computers recognise the device... Is there anyway to get the files back we had over 113 GB of info? Please Help.

You can try one or more of the following file recovery programs.

PC Inspector (freeware)

Zero assumption Recovery
The demo is limited
It will only recover 'up to' four folders per run
But you can make multiple runs

Ontrack's 'Easy Recovery'

File Scavenger

There are TWO hardware components that comprise an external hard drive. First is the enclosure itself, which is what you see in Device Manager. The second is the hard drive itself.

What is the exact message you get when connecting the external drive?

With the external drive connected go into Disk Management in WinXP and see how the drive shows there. If it says it is RAW then you may be able to fix it by using a program called testdisk.

Post back before attempting to run testdisk.
