Microsoft Windows 7 home premium 64-bit

Specs: Windows 7
My external backup was done on old Windows XP 32 bit, trying to use the backup on my new Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. How can I get my documents and photos, not concerned with the programs on the backup?

It depends, how did you backup your stuff in Windows XP? Did you simply copy the files or did you right click your C: drive go to properties and run the NTBackup utility? If the later then it will be a little tricky because the restore utility will want to restore the files to c:\documents and settings\yourname\*.* and Windows 7 no longer uses the "documents and settings" folder it now uses the "users" folder. If possible I would go back and just copy the files directly to your external drive but if not then see if you have a friend who still has an XP box.

Here are the instruction for using Windows 7 backup...

Now Windows 7 has an Upgrade Utility which should backup your XP files in a way that they can be restored from Windows 7 but you have to run this before you blew away your XP box...

Good luck.

P.S. Welcome to Windows 7. I complained up and down how you simply can not upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7.
