explorer not showing all files and folders?

January 14, 2011 at 01:11:28
Specs: Windows xp, 2gig p4 2gig ram
have 10% left on local drive, but when manually checking all file sizes of folders and files; the total amounts to 50% aprrox of drive capacity. (Can see hidden folders). Perhaps explorer is missing something?

Can you also see system files?

How are you working out your totals?

Are you including the system restore cache (system volume information folder) - its inaccessible to normal users, even administrators by default). If you turn system restore off and on again, it will clear this cache (which will be reflected by increased space left). You can also restrict the amount of space system restore uses.
