You cannot install Windows XP successfully after you use Windows Vista or Windows PE 2.0 to create partitions on a hard disk

I agree there is something wrong with your WinXP CD. Are you using a burned copy? Clean the CD and try again. That error indicates the file can't be found or read.

Most likely the cd but it could also be a hardware issue.

Since you have access to a second computer...
Create a dir called "test". Put your cd in and try to copy the
1252.nls file into it.

If you get an error , the cd has problems. If it copies over,
then it could be an error on the hd , cdrom or a memory issue on the computer you are trying to load xp on.

Chuck2 s post also has a wealth of valuable information.

This is likely two or more of the following:

1.) When you burn your WIndows XP disc, make sure you burn at the LOWEST SPEED. Burn it at 16x and NOT higher than that. The disc your may have or have not have is probably burned at 24x or greater and thus, the drive can not read the data on it.

2.) The Windows XP disc is probably scratched or warped. If it is, then its less likely the dvd drive is going to read the disc, and I suggest to recreate a XP cd.

3.) Leave your windows xp in a cd case. Leaving it on a desk or on the carpet, etc will get dirty, scratches, etc.

Good luck and BACK UP your data and then format the computer and lastly, install a fresh copy of Windows XP.

Better make a new thread for any new problem.

What was the initial problem, did you un-install Vista first, or was there a reading error on the installation disk ?
