Error message installing program

Specs: Windows XP
I am trying to install a program but every time i try an error pops up saying:"This software requires an additional 20450 K bytes free on the D: drive to install. Please remove any unnecessary files and try again" Now my computer only has "C" as a HD and the "D" drive is my CD/DVD. Why is this software trying to use my D drive to install in my C drive, which by the way has more than 95 gbs free.

- I did put the destination folder C
- The other thing i notice that might help identify the problem was that when trying to install it says copying file: from D:/......

Apparently this software was able to complete the installation on another laptop, but not on my dell laptop.
My laptop came with Vista, but I'm using Windows 7 now.
