Toshiba / P30

Specs: Windows XP, 512MG RAM
I am running wsus 7.5 offline update and it gets so far and then gives the following;

Verifying integrity of existing updates for win glb...
..\win\glb\directx_Jun2010_redist.exe: No match
hashdeep.exe: Audit failed
Input files examined: 0
Known files expecting: 0
Files matched: 5
Files partially matched: 0
Files moved: 0
New files found: 1
Known files not found: 0

ERROR: File integrity verification failure.

Press any key to continue . . .

Does anyone know how to fix his or is there something wrong with the file on the server.

I will first try to duplicate the problem on a second machine. If it fails there as well I will try version 8.4. Thanks.

Is there some reason why you're not using or can't use Windows Update? Regardless, you should be using the latest WSUS version, v7.5 is old news.

Okay I tried ona different XP computer and it worked fine so something must have been wrong with my computer.

As for riider's question about using windows update. I am trying to find a way to get my machine to a point where all software that I want is installed, all windows and office updates are applied without ever having to connect to the internet. This has turned out to be challenging and I was previous shot down here for wanting to do such a thing. My goal was to be 99 sure of having a machine that was virus and malware free as it had never connected to the internet. I started downloading and saving msupdates, but that worked until I hot an update that wasn't an exe file, or had multiples files included in the update. There were no instruction on which file had to be done first, or even if all of them had to be executed.

Using WSUS doesn't seem to be working either because even after running the generator and installer, windows update says there are still updates that need to be aplied. I don't understand why these are not getting downloaded via WSUS.

KB961118 Update for Windows XP

All of the 'Update For Windows' are classified critical on the Microsoft Update Catalog so I am not sure why they are not included in WSUS.

Johnw - another question for you....it looks like version 8.4 only has Win XP 64 bit - or at elast that looks like what it was downloading as everything had 64 in the file name.

Thanks, try Custom & only one download at a time, leave Framework till last, usually this is the problem download.
If Framework still doesn't download, let us know.

Thanks John. I will give it a shot. But I have to mention one thing. I think I confused you. When I said 64 I wasn't referring to the download of WSUS. I was referring to the downloads once you are running WSUS 8.4.

When I start it up the choice says 'Windows XP / Server 2003 X64 editions (w3k3-x64)'. I am not sure if the x65 just applies to the Server 2003, or the Windows XP as well. However when I click start and the download starts, I see lines like this;

BF6-4AF7-AAF3-EC6CCF4FE737/dotNetFx45LP_Full_x86_x64de.exe

x86_x64 looks like 64 bit to me.

Okay John. I started up the installer again anf the option to install Framework 3.5 is already greyed out. Were you suggestion I get back to a point where this was not yet installed?

hi John,

I guess the answer to your question would be no. When I ran the 7.5 installer I kew I would need Framework 3.5 so I chose it at the time I was trying to install everything else. If you want me to retry without the framework, I will need to restore back to factory setting as I didn't take any backups along the way of the rebuild of my machine, other than t the very end. This will take a day or two. Even at that I am not sure the generator created the KB's I mentioned previously because when I search the client director, I don't find them.

I ran the 8.4 generator and installer but the installer gives me this;

Hi John,

Well http://www.downloadcrew.com/article... says 8.4 includes Windows XP and http://www.softpedia.com/get/Others... says it includes XP and XP 64.

I searched under the 8.4 client directory and don't see 961118 for example. I am not sure who wrote WSUS and what site they are checking but maybe the site does not have the update like the Microsoft Catalog does.

John,

Another question. When I run the generator, does it download all updates for my chose product, or only the updates I do not have installed? Looking at the 8.4 client directory, there doesn't seem to be a lot there and I was wondering if it is because I applied most of the updates with 7.5.

Can you at least tell me whether WSUS is a Microsoft product or is it an open source that one or more people contribute too?

Forget it John. I see on their web page it is open source and the original author and administrator is listed.
