For the past few months, whenever I try to download the monthly windows updates, there are 2 or 3 security updates that continually fail. The error code is 0x80070005. I've checked out the help info for this error code, and it doesn't make sense re my situation. Usually I try repeatedly to download the updates for several days, then I just forget about it for a week or two, and then one day I'll try it and shazaam! . . . the remaining updates download without a problem. I've tried disabling anti-virus, firewall, etc., even unplugging my external hard drive (I thought that was the problem once). Any ideas? Thanks for your help . . .

Jam, that did the trick! Thanks a lot . . . I remembered after viewing the info at this link that I had downloaded the program to allow me to view new Word documents generated by Vista, and that after doing so had to download SP3. That appears to be when my problem started. But this diagnostic tool straightened it all out! Always get a good answer here, and this time no exception! Best wishes . . .
