whenever I type regedit to go to the registry, a dialogue appears saying registry editing has been disabled by administrator. I am the administrator and did no such thing. How can I enable it back? thanks!

You probably picked up a virus or some malware. See if you can download and install a program called CCLEANER Slim. Also, download and install a program called Malwarebytes from http://www.malwarebytes.org/. Run these and see if it clears up.
