Specs: Microsoft Windows XP, 3 GHz / 2045 MB
Can't play dvd's with Win Media Player. Have tried at least 8 different codec programs and still get nothing more than the audio. I am using ver 11 with Windows XP Pro. Yes it is a DVD/CD multi drive. Changed drives and reinstalled Media Player.

Download and install VLC player. It plays everything and it's free.

Yes, I know, but that does not solve my problem. Need to know why Media Player does not work!! I prefer Media Player over VLC.

OK Jackman. I understand WMP doesn't support DVD playback. You need a third party software.

Yes, I know I need codec's and I have them installed on 4 other machines and everything works fine. This install is giving me fits! I have tried probably at least 8 or 9 different ones and none seem to be working.

It's all in the display card. I thought I had the newest drivers, but they weren't. Upgraded them and now everything works fine.

Thanks for the help!

Media Player is crap. Half of the stuff I try won't play correctly because of codec errors. The newest version available for XP is WMP 11; it's 5 years old and outdated compared to other new products. Go back to post #2.

Media Player is working just fine and always has. VLC, as I have seen, still is no better than "crap".
