|I have a custom built PC that is only for work. |
A few weeks ago I started having a problem
with it randomly rebooting. So i noticed it
usually happened when i put a cd in the dvd-
rom drive, no matter what type of cd or dvd.
Once the drawer closed it would start to spin
up the cd and immediately reboot. So i said let
me swap out this dvd-burner with this spare
one i have laying around while i wait for a new
shipment from the internet. So the spare
works great, it just isn't the same color as my
rig so i purchased a new black one. So i used
the spare dvd-burner alot over the last week
without a peep of a problem. So the other night
i found the time to swap out the spare drive
with the shiny new black one. As soon as i
boot up the PC and put a disc in it does the
same thing and reboots the computer. I took
everything out, reseated everything and started
it back up. Same thing. I went out and bought
a 70.00 burner from my local computer store.
Same thing!!! The only thing i noticed installing
each of the new drives is that they are using
unapproved drivers for XP (you know, like 75%
of everything you ever install and you get that
pop-up that tells you you are installing
something not made to work with.... blah blah
blah). Anyway, the spare drive is older and
probably has drivers built into windows that are
Anyway, there are no drivers really available for
these drives as they are usually plug and play.
Any ideas what i can do to get around this?
