I don't think you can install and run 98 except on C drive. If you want you can install 98 on C and XP on D.

This could be done but it wouldn't be simple. A better option is to Install VirtualPC or VirtualBox and install Win98 on that.

You really should post your system specs. Win98 has problems with more than 512MB RAM. So depending on what you have, you would have to temporarily lower the RAM amount to 512MB or less just to get 98 to install. Also, there's the question of driver availablity.

Agree with LMiller7. It would be better to run under a virtual machine than attempting to install with XP already there.

98's boot files will be on c: but the OS can live on any other drive letter.

nomad1 to answer your question C: can't be ntfs but fat32 for you to install 98.
Once installed xp won't boot so you will need to boot the xp cd and go into recovery console to run fixmbr and fixboot.l This will get xp booting again. You may need to add the line to the boot.ini

C:\"windows 98"

There is a method if c: is ntfs to create a bootsec.dos file so you can boot from ntfs. The how to is on the internet somewhere.

Answers are only as good as the information you provide.

Thanks to All for your replies

My current system is - Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E6550 2.33Ghz
2GB Ram
XP Pro V2002 SP3
"C" Drive 250GB
"D" Drive 110GB

Would prefer to keep XP on "C", has internet connection and other programs installed,
"D" is the slave that up till now I have used as storage for photos, documents etc.

I want to run a couple of Windows 95/98 games that I have so far been unable to run in XP, I have tried setting the 95/98 mode in XP. (Option 1)

Run a dual boot with 98se on "D". (Option 2) Hence my current question.

I am open other options.
