dual boot (two drives) xp and ubuntu

Microsoft Windows xp professional w/serv...

Specs: Windows XP/Ubuntu 10, 1.7 G
I have two seperate harddrives. XP Pro on C and Ubuntu 10 on D. I want to have the option of choosing which system to boot from. I prefer XP as default.

I can't find anything with my particular setup. As it stands now... I have to disconnect C if I want to load Ubuntu. Is there a way to modify the boot.ini and/or grub for this setup?

I know there was some software that fixes this, but I lost it and I can't remember the name.

you can do it by setting what drive boots in the bios.

Otherwise you need a 3rd party boot manager. google boot managers for more info.

Grub should have installed with Linux (if installed second) and should have automatically detected XP and added it to it's boot menu. You should be able to add it to grub's menu, but I am not sure exactly (I have installed and used linux, but not extensively). I would suggest posting under linux and there you will be able to get a better answer, it is probably fairly easy to do.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Thanks for the help as I am new to Linux. It wouldn't detect xp because of so many hard drives. I learned that I had to take out my extra hard drives (storage) for it to be detected.

I also learned through trial and error how to set it up on it's own hard drive. I had to reinstall with the setting that allows me to specify my own partitions adding them to the hard drive i added for ubuntu. Then I had to update grub after reinstalling my storage drives. It was easier than trying to add grub to each hard drive. Again thanks for your help.
