"tried dell can only download to desktop" You have to know how to download. What model do you need drivers for? Dimension 1100? I just tried the audio driver & had no problem downloading it to my PC. Did you select "Download via your Internet Browser", then click "Save" from the popup, then pick a location or folder to save the driver in?
EDIT: are you confusing the default download location of "desktop" (C:\Documents and Settings\your name\desktop) with a desktop PC?
