Look for the drive in Windows Disk Management. Post everything you see listed there for the external drive.

Only C, D & CD drives. All others got deleted. All my Bu programs are on my Lacie ext HD under drive J. There is no drive J on my computer so they can't find each other.

Thanks,

My Computer and Windows Disk Management are NOT the same thing. Go to Manage> Storage> disk management. See if the Lacie is showing up there. If so, post all the list information on it.

You may need to take ownership of the files/folders on the lacie. Look at the link below to learn how.

Do you have it connected?

I will ask one more time. Did you look in Disk Management for the external. If it is there it will be listed as an external drive. Forget the drive letters for now.

You didn't bother to state that you did look in Disk Management.

If the Lacie isn't showing in disk management then either your USB ports are not functional or the drive is defective. Does the Lacie have AC power?

Are any of your USB ports working? Did you install the motherboard chip set drivers after re-installing XP?
