It is very rare that a legit program would do this. I have been running into a lot of viruses that are changing file associations. But if you don't think that you are infected then here is the link with the file association fixes

I also recommend that you download TDSSkiller and scan for root kits

Unfortunately this post is a bit confused - it says Vista but is posted on the XP forum.

If it is Vista then Gretti's first link is the right one for the association fixes.
If it should happen to be XP you will need this link instead:

As already given a virus is highly likely. Another freebie that is good at finding and fixing the difficult ones is MalwareBytes.
