down loaded bios from dell, still a no go

Specs: Windows Vista
i down loaded a bios recovery disk from dell for the inspiron to try to restore the drive but it is a no-go. the computer says "no drive is detected. so i tried to put in the windows xp restore disk and it started to work till it told me no drive was detected. i hit f3 to escape set up. i then went to restart computer and f1 didn't work but f2 did take me to bois and on the first page it says no hard drive found and there is no way to highlight it. on the last page in bios there is a section and on a friends inspiron, its shows one thing different, the hard drive. in my bios it says primary,(line 1)...admin,(line 2), (*****) that symbol separates the first two lines and says hard drive on his but mine stops there so i assume that is where i have to put the drive back and bois does not show me or give any hint as to how to get there.

If the hard drive isn't detected, a BIOS update isn't going to help. Assuming you're working with the original drive & no cables were changed, the hard drive is most likely bad & will need to be replaced.

It appears your hard drive has died. If that is the case nothing you can change in the BIOS screens will help. You will need to replace the hard drive.

You did not post the model of your Dell but there is a slim possibility the power or data connections to the hard drive have loosened, which could cause the message you are getting.

With the limited information you supplied that is all I can tell you.

Restore the "Default" settings on the BIOS and start from there.
