Domain Error when Logging in

Specs: Windows XP Professional
I'm using Windows XP Professional and I recently upgraded my browser to IE8 and such, and now whenever I try to login to my user it tries to get me to input a password. I tried not putting on in and it said the Domain was unavailable. What's wrong?

It sounds like your computer thinks it is trying to log on to a domain. Is this the case? Is this/was this a company computer?

When at the log-in box, there should be an option to "Log on to:". Make sure this is set to "local machine".
