Solved does XP require SATA drivers?

June 24, 2014 at 13:10:43
Specs: Windows XP
XP corrupts SATA drive.
IDE and USB drives OK
XP seems to use sudo IDE ATA ATAPI Controllers (multiple primary and secondary controllers)
SeaTools v1.1 declares the SATA drive OK (so I assume the cable is OK)
Thanks, Tracey
Drive worked fine in W2K

"does XP require SATA drivers?"

Yes, it does. XP was released before SATA drives went mainstream so it doesn't support them "out of the box". Either the SATA drivers need to be loaded from a floppy during Windows setup, OR a new XP CD containing the SATA drivers needs to be created, OR the hard drive setting in the BIOS needs to be set to IDE compatibility.

Here's an old "how-to". I don't know if the links are still good or not.
