Does not start

September 26, 2009 at 10:32:23
Specs: Windows XP
I was clearing out the personal data for a friend who is giving their PC to another friend.

Upon restart I am now getting the error Windows Could Not Start Because of a Computer Disk Hardware Configuration Problem.

I have tried to just reinstall windows xp from scratch but it's not even reading the CD or DVD drives and I can't get to the setup screen to check the boot sequence.

what am I doing wrong?

Several reasons :

The Default value in the [Boot Loader] section of the Boot.ini file is missing or invalid.

Solution : Replace boot.ini file with recovery console

Windows XP is not installed in the location specified in the Boot.ini file.

Solution : Also, boot.ini may be bad

The Ntoskrnl.exe file is missing or damaged.

Replace ntoskrnl.exe with recovery console

The partition path in the Boot.ini file is not set correctly.

Solution : Replace boot.ini

General hardware failure.

If replacing of boot.ini doesn`t help, go here and read about Recovery console

read the example and replace the lines

did you install xp in soem other partition ( not the first listed ) ???

our patience is big

"I can't get to the setup screen to check the boot sequence."

Are you using the correct keyboard key(s) to start the bios setup program? The first screen should tell you which key(s).

Is the keyboard PS2 or USB?
