Specs: Windows XP, Pentium D
Bought a reconditioned Dell Optiplex 620 with XP and want to set it up without an internet connection. I do have reasons, but is this possible?

Being a Dell, it should already be activated and ready to go.
If you ever do want to connect to the internet all you need to do is plug it in to your moden...router. Other wise leave it disconnected.

The first thing I would do is make a full backup of the computer and save it in a safe location.
Then create a restore point.

Did they also give you a cd with it? Dell install disk.
If not, ask for one.

But in answer to your question......No you don't need to be connected to the internet.....You are good to go!

You only need an internet connection if you need to get online. It depends on what you mean by set it up. You need to go online for updates, like service packs etc, unless you have the SP3 disk.

Well, thanks for the response. What I mean by set it up is turn it on for the first time and go from there. The xp is pre-installed.

No. If it's already setup, you can use XP, without an internet connection; legally registering it via phone. But as grasshopper mentions, updates would either need a connection or you'd need some way to download them onto an appropriate media (flash-drive, CD-R) from another machine.

Even if you don't have an OEM install you can call MS to get an activation code.
