Display Properties only displays Themes

This is an answer, not a question.

After recovering from some kind of virus, I could not see anything in "Display Properties" but the "Themes" tab. After much playing around in Regedit and Group Policies, came across a suggestion to look in C:/Windows for the file "WindowsShell.Manifest" and sure enough, it was missing. I copied it from my own WINXP machine and placed it into my friend's C:/Windows directory, rebooted, and all of a sudden I had all tabs, and they even worked after rebooting several times! What an aggravating problem, and lots of searching on the internet led to many dead ends, hope this post helps someone else...

enb54, Another fix for that problem is to go to the link below and scroll down to line 285 right column and download & run the "Restore All Display Tabs" .reg file fix. Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and answer yes to the import prompt.
