dell latitude d610 wont sleep when closed

Specs: windows xp, 512mb ram
ok heres the deal i wrecked my old hard drive for my old dell latitide d610 laptop so after getting one off ebay with windows xp preinstalled i got it up and running again but when i try and close the lid the screen stays on this also happens when i try to use a docking station pls help

There should be a setting under power options in control panel, that will let you select what your laptop does when you close the lid.
I'm not currently on a laptop so I can't remember exactly what tab it's under etc. But it will be in power options.
If it's set to "do nothing", that's why it stays on. You can then change that to shutdown or whatever you want.

If it shutdown before the wrecked hard drive, and now it doesn't. It will most likely be that setting.

it only has the option do nothing and its blurred out on the start menu
