Dell / Inspiron 510m...

Specs: Windows XP
I have DELL Inspiron 510M and recently when I turn on the laptop everything is working fine until few seconds later the screen goes black. I have googled the problem so I came to conclusion that the problem was the LCD Screen Inverter.
I replaced the inverter with a new one I brought from ebay and still the problem is there

If there is something I dont know please let me know
thanks

Have you connected an external monitor to see if you get a display on that?

ahmed... is the laptop in "laptop" power-mode and is trying to lower the brightness of the screen when idle for some time? Try putting it in the desktop powermode and see if the problem still exists.

Are you sure what you bought on eBay was NEW and not a PULL in new packaging? Contact the seller. Yeah Right!!!!!

Check the Users Manual for the Fn/Fkey combo to toggle from LCD to External monitor.

If not the Inverter, it could be the CCFL Back light tube itself, or a broken/loose wire in the LCD bundle from MOBO to LCD. Broken wires are common in the part that goes through the Lid Hinge. If you can see the Desktop image, it's not the LCD.

Double check all connections.

There is nothing to learn from someone who already agrees with you.

Dumbob... I have brought another inverter hoping you might be right about ebay but still the screen goes off after few minutes so I am tempted to buy CCFL backlight since I have no other choice

Did the CCFL backlight sort out the problem? I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 and the screen suddenly went off the other day. An external monitor works fine. Where have you got to with this fix?

I did not bother buying CCFL backlight as it looks like a very difficult job replacing.
