April 4, 2013 at 07:37:55
Specs: Windows 7
My pc was hijacked...yes, I know, I was that stupid! & now I can't access it as I wouldn't give them money.I don't know anything about computers really but I have managed to get into the set up menu...if I press load defaults will that give me access again & will I loose all my pics & music etc or will they still be there? Any help would be appreciated as it has me demented!

Do you know how to enter BIOS?

With a Dell it is likely to be one of the following four key combinations while booting:

Ctrl+Alt+Enter

Del

Fn+Esc

Fn+F1

It would be worth seeing if they have messed with that or just Windows.

You could retrieve to valuable docs and pictures onto a flash drive using a Live Linux CD made on another computer. This is fine if your CD drive is already ahead of the HD but otherwise you need to get into BIOS to set it that way.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

You have a virus (FBI?). We need to know which one it is, then someone will hook you up with the removal instructions.

I don't know what type it is. They said they were from microsoft & it was to do with my warranty being invalid...I should have known better but having just woke from night shift I wasn't thinking straight. I gave them remote access...which I know I shouldn't have done but as I have done this type of thing in the past...with the genuine tec people & no probs encountered I really didn't think too much about it. When I tried to use the p.c after telling them I had no money it came up saying windows xp requires a password, which I hadn't until today been able to get passed but when those bleeps called me again today I managed to get the guy to tell me how to get past it, he hung up when I said I had no money but I got to the set up bit. I have also managed to get onto the window where it allows safe mode etc but it won't let me further than that.

You've been scammed. Use system restore to restore your computer to a time before the infectious lock. Post back if you need to know how to do a system restore.

Go to Dell http://support.dell.com/ and find what you need to get the machice cleaned up and running.

It's a good day when you learn something

Re #6

Good idea but still worth getting your own stuff off first if possible because they might suggest a factory restore, or some other idea that clears out your HD.
