dell 3000 updating RAM

Dell Dimension 3000 desktop

Specs: Windows XP-Home Edition, Celeron 2.80 GHz- 256MB Ram
My DELL Dimension 3000 has just had a 1GB Memory installed(DDR PC3200 400MHz).Theoretically the Computer should now recognise 1.256GB's of memory but it only recognises 512MB despite the best efforts of the technician who installed it for me.He says that the fault may lie in the fact that the system uses BIOS AO2 instead of BIOS AO3.
Can you please tell me if I can get the system to recognise the full amount of memory which is now installed?

Thanks for any help you can give me. Gerd Hinsch at

1st of all it is really DUMB to post your e-mail address in a are inviting lots of spammers be prepared.
2nd of all, sounds like the stick of ram added is dead. Why not try a memtest on the PC, run it and see if the ram is fine?

"despite the best efforts of the technician who installed it for me."

Just wondering who purchased the ram and if it was a new stick.

Some HELP in posting on plus free progs and instructions Cheers
