dead vista hdd instal xp on new hd

i have a dell xps m410 that came loaded with vista. a couple of months ago the harddrive went bad i got a code 7 on the dell diagnostic check so i bought a new hdd . i tried to install xp home edition on the new hdd but i keep getting a blue screen that says windows has shut down to protect itself. this happens after the windows xp cd seems to be working. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi axiom_87,

Did you test your RAM with any program? I invite you to scan your memory using MemTest. Download and burn the ISO from this page and reboot your PC. On BIOS, choose start with CD/DVD and insert the CD. Reboot again and scan the memory. If it has problems, some red lines appears on screen.

axiom_87, is the new drive installed? As 'C'? Did you change the bios so the machine will look on the new hdd for loading instructions, if not?
