DBAN/Chkdsk fail, can't load XP

Lenovo Ideapad y530-7343u notebook

Specs: Windows 7, 2.0 GHz / 2.0 Gb
I'm trying to reload XP so that I can upgrade to 7 with my upgade disc. When I try to reload XP from the install disc (any disc, it turns out, I've tried 3) I get a "Problem has been detected d windows has been shut down....STOP:0x0000007B (0F78D663C, 0XC0000034, 0x000000000, 0x0000000000)

I have run CHKDSK/ F and it reported no bad sectors or errors.
I can't run DBAN successfully (it errors out displaying only the time and without formatting).

I CAN (And have) load Windows 7, but I can't validate the copy b/c the product key is only for an upgrade and not a clean install. (And i speny 3 hours trying to get Microsoft tech to cooperate- no go on that one.)

"Upgrading" an unvalidated Win7 to Win7 is technically valid. Also, there's a registry hack you can use. (You'll want to use method 2 or 3; 1 is no longer an option for you.)
