Cursor keeps moving down

Specs: Windows XP
Hi I have an ASUS Laptop with XP
Recently whenever i switch on the laptop evrything is fine. On the desktop all the icons start getting highlighted automatically as when we highlight with ou mouse. it comes down and remains highlighted on the bottom last icon. Ive to keep pressed Fn key and double click internet explorer. Again the address bar keeps scrolling down automatically. Ive tried disabling the launch pad and just using mouse. Also have done spyware adware and antivirus checks. Pls help as this is very frustrating.

What mouse? Is it wired or wireless? If wireless replace batteries and see if it solve the problem.

I am aware of this issue,

Usely not a virus or malware.

U can fix it by ur own.

Do u have some knoledge about windows ?

Use follwong link,. I am 99% sure this would fix ur issue.

If works just a thanks or not works then i will find some thing else for you.

Backup the registry before making any changes

And if you fear /unable to edit the registry, let me know i will give u a txt file to just double click and fix.

go to control palel and dbl clk mouse. Go to POINTER OPTIONS and un-chk ENHANCED POINTER PRECISION. That should help...

Hi Guys

Thanks a lot for all your replies...really appreciate

Ive tried changing the mouse and also the batteries still same problem exists

Ive changed the reg entries as per the link from subhash still not solved

Ive tried unchkin ENHANCED POINTER PRECISION as per kenbehr. This did work for say 5 min and then again the cursor started playing going down to the bottom of the screen automatically. I again chkd and unchkd ENHANCED POINTER PRECISION which again did the trick for say 5 min.

does this still happen when a serial or usb mouse is plugged in? ( with presicion unchecked?) maybe up date synaptics drivers;...
