What version of IE are you using?

General advice, now the support (from M$-land) for XP has stopped is to drop IE and use something else - typically Firefox. Updates for the last version of IE for XP are no more...

You could try IE Reset:
From IE > Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab > Reset button.

Heed the advice from trvlr, IE is insecure. For day to day use you need an alternative browser.

Here's some more security advice:

✔ Best Answer
Why are you still running SP2? The 1st thing you should do is install SP3 & then download ALL Windows Updates. Your Windows installation is several years behind in terms of updates & security fixes.

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down...

Download to hard drive; save/burn to a DVD for future use?

This M$ link has the ISO clearly indicated:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us...

You can run it from the hard drive, or from the DVD (which you make).

SP3 should have been offered as an update several years ago. Do you have Windows Update disabled?

First type winver in the Run box (then hit Enter key) to double check what XP version you have.

Firstly,I downloaded winxp s3 iso cd image and burned it in the dvdrom cd, but it was not bootable and so I could not be able to install it at all. 2ndly, I tried to run or install it from harddrive too but nothing.

Why are you not being offered SP3 from MS? Has the update been hidden perhaps?

I'm not sure what form the ISO shook out but it should not need to be bootable. You didn't just copy the ISO file onto the disk did you? If so use your software's "Burn an Image (ISO)" feature. If you haven't got such a feature, this freebie will do it:

Whatever, that was a worthwhile move if you are intending to hang on to XP.

Did you try the Reset - see #2?
