Continuous Reboot

Emachines/gateway / D300xt laptop

Specs: Windows XP
We have recently come upon a problem with our home computer. When my mother tried to configure some USB ports on our computer and then she rebooted it, the computer restarted, but then it flashed to a blue screen and rebooted again. Now when we turn it back on, it goes to the screen where we can start the computer in Safe Mode or the other options that it gives us (from last settings that worked, normal mode, etc), but it tries to start in those, and then it goes back to rebooting. Is there anything we can do to fix this problem? Thank you
EDIT: I accidentally chose the wrong operating machines. It is an eMachines D3000 Series 3123.

mmm - can you be a little more specific about what your other actually did re' configuring the usb ports?

Also... do you have either a full or even an upgrade version of the XP CD; and can you possibly post the error message that is likely displayed when the system goes to the BSOD (Blue Screen of Death)?

thank you for writing back. She uninstalled and then reinstalled the USB ports on the actual computer, since that is what another website suggested that she do to get them working again. Also, the blue screen doesn't come up long enough to see the message. Thanks!

Oops, also, we do not have an XP recovery disc since the computer was a gift from someone who owned it for about 2 years previously.

mmm I will get back to you in more detail later today.. meanwhile where are you located (which country etc.?); and do have access to an XP (Full or Upgrade)CD - one perhaps belonging to another system?
