computer screen stuck in sleep mode

Specs: Windows XP
We have had our HP computer in storage for 2 years. Have set it up, checked all connections but screen reverts to yellow light like its stuck in sleep mode.

You should try another monitor to see if that's the problem but my guess is it's the computer and not the monitor. The monitor is acting like it's in sleep mode because it's not getting any signal from the computer.

thanks, will take it up to the repair shop, I was hoping there was a simpler problem

If at all possible you should try another monitor with it before taking it to the shop. If it still doesn't work then yeah, it's going to be more complicated--power supply, motherboard or peripheral connected to the motherboard.

If it has been in storage for a couple of years there is a good chance something has worked lose. I assume that last time it was switched on it was working.

Open up the case and try reseating the memory and video card. Just taking them out and putting them back in can often solve the problem, Push all the internal connectors back in, power supply and data cables to the hard disk.

Then there is always the chance the mice have been at it. Mice do love to chew on electric cables.
