computer hard drive wont boot

Specs: Windows XP
hi i have a fujitsu siemens system with windows xp i turned it off last night all ok. today i turned it on and waited for it to boot .it didnt boot up as normal. a page came up with boot details on and it said operating system not found i tried several times but nothing worked, so i decided to reboot it with factory reboot disc .this started to reboot as soon as i put it in. after a short time it said that it was checking the system files and set up after a few more minutes it said hard drive not found. i have tried it several times but it still wont work. can you help kind regards james

Could be your hard drive died. Check the BIOS to is if it's recognized. If it is, run a diagnostics check.

You could try a Live Lunux CD (such as Puppy Linux) made on another computer. If it boots to that it proves that the mobo, PSU, CD & RAM are not the issue. You would normally be able to see and access the HD from Lunux. If you can't it gives more weight to the idea that the HD has gone south.
