Specs: Windows XP
HP pavilion a747c runs all the time and is quite noisy and annoying. I am a poor artist what should I do?? many thanks

Running all the time is normal, dust is the computers big enemy, clean it out.

1) enter the BIOS setup and search for fan control.
some computers will allow you to fine tune the fan control via BIOS.

2) enter the BIOS setup and make sure that EIST (intel enhanced speedstep) or AMD's powernow / cool'n'quite is set to "enabled".

3) this is true for windows xp:
win xp has some predefinded power profiles / power schemes.
make sure that your are not using "Home/Office Desktop" as it does not utilize adaptive power control.
instead, enable the scheme "Portable/Laptop". this is also true even when you have a desktop / workstation PC, actually!
