Specs: Windows XP media center, Pentium D / 2 GB
Error message not a valid win32 application is shown when a disc is inserted that is commercially produced. I.e. a belkin setup disc for a new router. Checking on the drivers, no issues found. Have read and tried so many fixes. Some say it is a virus, internet explorer 8, roxio, which I removed roxio.Possible Bad driver, but no new driver is available. Have found many like problems. dll cache ? comes up too. Oh, yes service pack 3 running.

Is your xp a 32 or 64 bit version. Can you see the disk in the cd player in My Computer. If it shows in the tray, can you right click it and choose explore to see what's on it?

You can get the drivers from here also.

Thank you Grasshopper! The method you suggested allowed me to open the dvd. The only way I had been able to was using the paper clip trick and then I would get the error message:"invalid win32 appI" I installed a driver. A file referred to as a "dpropdll" was downloaded and the error message didn't show up. The cd opened and closed and played properly. Thanks for your help. The system was 32 bit.
