Specs: Windows XP, AMD Athlon II X2/ 2GB RAM
Hello, I have an issue... I have a Compaq Presario SR5710 with X2 AMD Athlon II processors, 2 GB of RAM, an Nvidia GT 240 Graphics Card, A DiabloTek 500 Watt power supply, and an ASUS M2N68-AM SE2 Motherboard... Just recently my computer started to make an intermittent grinding noise from the HDD when the desktop starts up and the Disk light keeps blinking and it speeds up from time to time... Also the computer began to run extremely sluggish... Can anyone give me advice on how to correct the problem?

First of all, back up all your personal files. Sounds like your hard drive is failing.

You can run a hard drive fitness test from the manufacturer of your brand of hard drive to determine if the drive is actually dying. If you can't determine the brand, of your brand doesn't happen to have a test available, the Hitachi test works on all brands.

Back up your personal files first, then run the test.
