Specs: Windows XP
Do I have to reinstall all previous Windows versions, since my Dell GX400 came w/NT preinstalled and '98 and XP were Upgrade versions?

Make sure you have enough RAM to run XP...if you don't have at least 512MB, you're wasting your time.

But to answer your question, NO, you do NOT have to have an OS installed to be able to use the upgrade CD. Just start the XP installation & at a certain point, it will ask you to insert a qualifying Windows CD as proof of ownership...once it confirms you have the CD, the XP install will continue.

Thanks so much. I do this once every couple years and always hesitate, but as I read your message it all came flooding back to me.
