CD/DVD will not recognize a writable disk

March 12, 2011 at 05:49:38
Specs: Windows XP, WINDOWS RAM 512
Both my cd player and dvd came installed in my VAIO desktop. Before reformatting and afterwards neither will recognize a writable disk. The cd player can read a disk. They both have the recording tab in properties.

You need to supply more information.

What is the full model of your Sony Vaio?

What kind of disk are you inserting?

If you have two optical drives you must have installed one of them yourself. Post the model of that one.

Try cleaning the laser lens on the optical drive with a laser lens cleaning CD. If you don't have one, most places that sell CDs or DVDs have them - even some "dollar" stores have them for a buck or two.

CD-rom (only) drives cannot recognize blank burnable CDs

CD-rom (only) drives and CD burner (only) drives can't read DVDs or recognize blank burnable DVDs

DVD-rom (only) drives, or Combo CD burner (only) / DVD-rom (only) drives can't recognize blank burnable DVDs

You said, They both have the recording tab in properties. Did you
click the recording tab and see if
[ ] Enable CD recording on this drive is checked?

Cheers Peter
