cd/dvd is not detected during boot

Specs: Windows 7
"Reboot and Select proper boot device.
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key."

everytime i turn on my computer this shows up. i tried inserting a windows xp cd but it could not be detected.. when i press F8 the only option is the floppy disk (i dont even have one). i set cd/dvd as the priority and yet nothing happened.. help.. ughrr :|

I reckon the ribbon cable is loose at one end or needs replacing. Check them all.

i replaced the ribbon, and still not working,, i even checked the connectio and they are properly connected.. still not working..

Are there any red or yellow marks in Device manager?

Also, on the first page in the bios, set everything to Auto.

i don't know about the device manager because it doesn't even enter the desktop.. did you mean default? i did set it in default..
