Can't uninstall Java J2SE RE5.0 in WinXP

July 20, 2011 at 06:58:39
Specs: Windows XP Pro
Automatic Java Updates won't install - Warning message says:
bin\awt.dll: Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match.
The Java site says to remove (uninstall) old versions of Java and says that my system has J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 currently installed
When I use Control Panel>Install or Remove Programs there is no listing for Java, J2SE or anything else involving Java.
How do I uninstall Java J2SE RE5.0 in this situation - my system is Windows XP Professional

Problem solved!
Even though there was no Java listing when I tried to remove it using 'Control Panel>Install or Remove Programs' there was a Java folder in C:\Program Files. So I just deleted that folder and installed Java from scratch - from http://www.java.com/en/ and it installed OK.

That's good news, I gave you the wrong links, should have been these.

In my experience with Windows XP the new versions of Java 6.x automatically uninstall the old versions of Java.
