W XP, IE 8. A couple days ago Advanced System Care V 6 automatically installed. No problems. Monday I ran a scan and now my PC won't shut down. I usually click Start>Turn off computer>Turn off, and it worked fine. Now there is no response. It does not shut down. Also tried clicking "restart" and that doesn't work either. Alt>Control>Del also doesn't work.
If "Standby" is clicked, that works, but the PC comes back with just the slightest movement of the mouse.
Even the on/off button doesn't turn the power off. The only way to turn the power off is to unplug the computer which I don't dare do because it may not come back on if there's a problem.
open a command prompt and type shutdown -s
that should work
When it ran the scan did it make any changes? If so, does it have an 'undo' function. You might try that first. You can poke around in their 'admin tools' section and see if some setting there may be preventing a shutdown. Possibly it monkeyed around with your acpi.
Or maybe just uninstall it. Didn't it concern you when it 'automatically installed'?

You had to download that software in order for it to be installed on your computer. According to their website the program is an AntiVirus scanner as well as a tune up program. If you already had an AV program then they are probably conflicting. I never heard of this particular program. I suggest you go to Control Panel> Add/remove programs and remove the program.
"Advanced System Care" should not have installed by itself - it's a third party program. Maybe you clicked something accidentally online. Most programs of that type are either pointless or can do more harm than good. Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
Sounds like you have installed a program that included an option to install Advanced System Care V 6.
This is now very common to include other stuff during installs of a new program, one I have seen, installs the browser Chrome.
You do have a choice, it is just a matter of slowing down & reading during the install, no more Click, Click.
Uncheck all extra's during install, including toolbars. With your power, check your settings.
