Can't turn off align to grid

I know about the 'Arrange icons by' options for the desktop. My problem is that I would prefer align to grid 'off'; it does turn off each time I uncheck it; but it always boots up again as 'align to grid.'

Is there any way to save the off setting? Or is the fact it keeps coming back indicative of a problem somewhere (?registry maybe?) ?

You could also downoad the Free "Icon Restore" at the link below.

I did reply immediately last night to say 'thankyou' but that message doesn't seem to have arrived here.

I downloaded Icon Restore and ran it, and that seemed to work.
However, when I reboot this morning, the Align to Grid is on again, although the icons I re-arranged last night are in the same positions relative to one another, EXCEPT that they are also aligned to grid, and therefore not quite in the exact positions given them (and out of sync with other features on the desktop ie the desktop background.)

Guess I'll have to bite the bullet and go in the Registry.

Sincerely

Ian G.

Ian, In the Arrange Icons By also uncheck "Auto Arrange" and see what happens.

The "Auto Arrange" is already off.

The Icon Restore 'restore' option is quite handy - that restores a previously saved ungridded layout. If all I have to do (if I'm feeling fussy) is use that each each boot-up, that'll do me.

Thanks for your help.
