I then took my hard drive out and plugged it into another computer but I cant access my user data any ideas to bring it back would be much appreciated

When you plugged the drive in the other system what was the error you received when trying to open the profile? Does your account have a password that you enter to boot to the desktop? With XP when opening an account that has a password you need to start in SAFE mode and take ownership of the directory. Follow procedures HERE.
