It appears your "media" cd is really that of xp pro. Sure this is the correct cd for the laptop?

Post what laptop model/brand you have. I take it you have a dell?

Normally the control + f11 gets you to the hidden partiton that contains a factory drive image. if this is the case the laptop would not come with a OS cd/dvd

if you can't get they anymore this could indicate your drive died. You would need to contact Dell to get a replacement that also contains Media Center.

my computer is a Dell Demension E310.It came with 3 cd's os,drivers and modum,or something like that.Don't laugh, but I got it , I think 2005.I have down a complete reboot more than once,by doing this ctrl f11 xp pro keeps comming I know all the cd's came with my computer. It just baffels me when I put in the xp media center in only xp pro comes up and ask me to put in the xp pro cd,that I don't have and i have never had pro.when I turn it on it keepsm on doing a set up and the to put incd.I don/t know how to delete that.I'm not sure about those partitions. If I could just get the ctrl and f11 to come up I can go from there.I really wanted to do a repair.Hate yo loose all.I think, like you said ,my hard drive took a crash.

... click > Step 3: "...When the Dell splash screen appears during the computer startup process, press and hold <Ctrl> and then press <F11>. Then, release both keys at the same time...."
