can't open Device Manager

Microsoft Windows xp home edition w/sp2

Hello,

I can't open the Device Manager on my machine. The exact error message that comes up is:

The procedure entry point ?PickIconDlg@@YGHPAUHWND__@@PAGIPAH@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library mmcbase.DLL.

I'm not sure exactly when it started; I just noticed it when I was having some virus issues last month. The virus seems to have been cleared up, but this weird problem remains.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

(P.S. I have SP3, but there was no option for it in the 'Product' list.)

Try running the system file checker.

oddball, Check out the first 2 links at the search link below. It appears that one must uninstall the SP3 update then reinstall it.

SFC didn't do it, but uninstalling/reinstalling SP3 did, with the catch of having to reinstall Internet Explorer, too.

Thanks, everyone.
