March 14, 2011 at 10:39:25
Specs: Windows xp pro
Was using windows xp pro on desktop with two hard drives. Bad virus so reformated hard drive to do clean install. During reformatting had an accident and deleted primary drive, only have drives D and E. Windows files keep loading to E drive but cannot get instalation finished. Keep getting INVALID PARTITION TABLE. Have used setup from original disk no luck can anyone help? The computer was made to specifications not known to me.

You need to recreate the primary boot partition that you deleted. You get this option when windows shows you the drives/partitions and asks where you want to install. That "unallocated" space which is what you are left with after your delete needs to be created and formatted, then proceed with the install.

Answers are only as good as the information you provide.

Hi there! Thank you for the advice but there is now another problem....my computer has decided that there are no hard drives installed! I think there must be a virus deep down in the system somwhere! Not sure what steps to take at the moment. I'm going cross eyed, and just about ready to drop from lack of sleep! Early night tonight, fresh start tomorrow. Once again thank you for the advice.

I doubt it's a virus. XP doesn't recognize SATA hard drives & will state "no hard disk found". I assume that's what you're working with?

You are quite correct! I'm a novice "Techie" but according to my brother I'm getting quite good with everything, and says I shouldn't give up! Wish I had his confidence! (Says not bad for a female!)
