Can't get XP to work on acer am1610

September 8, 2010 at 13:28:42
Specs: Windows XP home edition, Pentium Dual core, 2GHz, 1.5 GB ram
Windows XP almost works on my Acer AM1610 but no access to internet, sound, DVD playback etc. Other apps work such as AutoCAD, MS Word etc. It was shipped with Vista Premium and I installed XP, which seemed to work except some functions. Would upgrading the BIOS help?

Did you install the motherboard chipset drivers? graphic drivers? audio drivers? network drivers? They're not on the XP need to search them out, download & install them.

And I'm curious how you installed the SATA drivers to allow XP to install?

The original SATA 500GB drive had failed and I installed an 80GB IDE drive on one of the IDE ports along with a 1TB USB drive. No, I did not hunt down the chipset drivers etc. as I could not access the Internet but thanks for the information, and I will on this computer. Also I understand from recent searches (Acer support) that the Acer model I have which came with Vista Premium is not compatible with XP.
